Kiunkaku was built in 1919 as a private villa in Atami.
At that time, Atami was an exclusive retreat favored by political leaders, business figures, and the Imperial Household.
Over time, Kiunkaku passed through three owners and evolved from a villa to a ryokan. Today, it remains a rare place where Atami’s history and onsen (hot-spring) culture quietly endure.
Originally completed in 1919 and known as one of Atami’s Three Great Villas, Kiunkaku is set within a lush garden that feels far removed from the city.
Its Japanese-style residence preserves the refined beauty of traditional architecture, while the Western-style building blends influences from Japan, China, and Europe—together creating the distinctive atmosphere of Kiunkaku.
